After testing and trying quite a few cameras such as :
• A Canon SD 700 the first one I attached to a string
• A Leica Dlux 3
• A Nikon 8400
• A Samsung NV 10
• A Canon S 70
• A modified Sigma DP1
• A Ricoh GX 100
Today I mostly use the Ricoh GX 200 which gives me the best compromise of optical quality, weight, functions and results.Its 19 mm wide angle converter is ideal for my type of Kite Aerial Photography.
The canon SD 700 was great to start as it is very light but the image quality was so so and battery life too short.
The Leica Dlux 3 is a great point and shoot but the lack of intervalometer or IR was a handicap.
The Nikon 8400 with its 24 mm is an excellent camera with RAW but is on the heavy side, I sometimes use it with a FCE9 183° fish eye adapter.
I rarely used the Canon S 70 which I find a bit slow
The Sigma DP1 and its 14 million pixels foveon sensor could have been the ideal alternative to a DSLR; Harbotronics modified my DP1 so that it could be electronically triggered via a KAPsure II but despite some great results the DP1 is way too slow with close to 8 seconds to record a RAW file.
I also used to use the Samsung NV 10 on some ultra light AutoKAP rig or on a Pole, but image quality was so so.
With the Ricoh GX 100 and it 5 seconds intervalometer I slowly evolved form full RC Video KAP to light autoKAP to travel light AutoKAP
The Ricoh GX 200 with its 12 million pixels was just the natural evolution from the GX 100 that Heidy is now using in her solo KAP session!
