Kite Aerial Photo for Climate Day and 350.org
Blog - News
Written by Pierre Lesage
On 24 October, people in 181 countries came together for the most widespread day of environmental action in the planet's history. At over 5200 events around the world, people gathered to call for strong action and bold leadership on the climate crisis.
350.org is an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis--the solutions that science and justice demand.
What is 350.org ? 350 parts per million is what many scientists, climate experts, and progressive national governments are now saying is the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. (in October 2009 we are at 387 ppm)
Kite Aerial photography was a perfect match to record this event in Tahiti and to illustrate the gathering of 350 people for 350 seconds! (well in fact a bit more….)
The “zero” is already in the water to illustrate the rise of the oceans due to climate changes; luckily we still have some outrigger canoes to reach safer shores…

This Kite aerial photography session was also the conclusion of KAPiTA/09 a gathering of KAPers coming from the UK, Canada, Switzerland and France.

KAPiTA 2009 Oct 17-24, 2009 an International Kapers conference on the island of Moorea is unfortunately cancelled due to a lack of participation. However if the conference side is canceled the get together will still happen with Carl Bigras a canadian KAPer and Dave Mitchel from the UK and of course Heidy and myself. Bernard Begliomini, a new KAPer from Tahiti (the only one I know) may also join. Launched two years ago, this event was endorsed by the CVCF ( Cerf volant club de France) and sponsored by Tahiti Tourisme and InterContinental Hotels French Polynesia but at that time no one could predict the economic turbulences the world is going through today. It was fun and very interesting working on the various subjects of the conference and we had the privilege to meet many KAPers around the world. At least the positive aspect is that with a smaller group not only will we visit Moorea but also the island of Bora Bora.

Half blog, half web site, I just wanted to share a hobby that became a passion, share some images, share some technical tips and why not offer my services for low altitude aerial photography (only if you have an interesting idea for a Kite Aerial Photography subject or you want to take aerial pictures of your house, company or festivity and can accept it may take months for the right conditions to come along.... I'm always willing to consider a challenge - especially if you offer an interesting compensation, which need not be of the pecuniary variety !!!)
